Say “Aloe!” to better skin!

Fun fact! Did you know that your skin is the largest organ of your body? Yes! Your skin is an organ, and like every other organ it has many critical functions. Our skin is our first line of defense for our bodies, creating a protective barrier to keep us safe. It prevents us from losing too much moisture, reduces the effects of harmful UV radiation, gives us the sense of touch and detects temperature. Our skin also helps us to regulate our temperature and acts as an immune organ to detect infections. It also produces vitamin D… wow! A that’s a big job, and something we often take for granted!

Our skin is made up three main layers:

  • The epidermis, which is the elastic, protective layer on the outside (this is continuously being regenerated)
  • The dermis, which is the inner layer that includes our sweat glands, hair follicles and sebaceous (oil) glands, and
  • The subcutaneous layer which is made up of connective tissue and fat, creating great insulation!

Knowing how important our skin is, it’s a wonder that we don’t take better care of it. All that hard work sometimes takes its toll and often we don’t know to best way to keep our skin as healthy as possible. As such it’s important to know what our skin really needs and, simply put, our skin only needs to be clean, hydrated, protected from the sun, and receive the fatty acids and vitamins that we get through a healthy diet.

So how do we do this without breaking the bank? Because surely all those expensive, lush skincare products we see on the shelves are the magic formula, right? Wrong! (Well at least in some cases). Besides drinking litres of water and eating a healthy diet (which is very important!), there are a few things you can do to make sure your skin is glowing from head to toe, that won’t cost the earth. One of these things is adding aloe vera gel to your skincare routine.

Aloe Vera has amazing medicinal properties and has been used by humans for thousands for years! It’s most commonly used for wound healing and treating injuries to your skin but it protects your skin from UV radiation and has anti-inflammatory properties. Amazingly it also has moisturizing and anti-ageing properties too! Aloe vera helps bind moisture to the skin and stimulates fibroblast cells to produce collagen and elastin fibers, making skin more elastic and erasing lines on your face. You’ll also be happy to know that aloe vera helps with dry, cracked and chapped skin, which can help with all this hand sanitizing we’re doing now a days. The aloe vera leaves the skin on your hands soft and moist.

It’s hard to believe that one plant can do all that!  We think it’s incredible and matched perfectly to all the important functions of our skin – making it ideal in assisting your skin to do it’s job. Now you can put your best face forward with Bettaway’s Betta Aloe Gel, our highly concentrated skin treatment with 100% pure Aloe Vera!
